Cuneta Astrodome

The Astrodome was one of the most prominent sports and event venues in the Philippines during the 1970s and 1980s. It has hosted events like basketball games, boxing matches, and music concerts. Over time, the arena’s significance has declined with the rise of newer, more modern venues in the country.

While the Cuneta Astrodome still holds a place in the hearts of many Filipinos due to its history, it has faced challenges with maintenance and competition from other venues like the Mall of Asia Arena and the Philippine Arena. Nonetheless, it remains a landmark in Pasay.

The Astrodome’s Role After 1999

When the PBA’s contract with the Pasay city government expired in 1999, the league moved its offices and most of its games to the PhilSports Arena (formerly the Ultra Sports Complex) in Pasig. The PhilSports Arena had served as the PBA’s home from 1985 to 1992. While the Cuneta Astrodome did host some PBA games in the late 1990s and early 2000s, its use became sporadic after the league moved its headquarters and regular events to other venues.

However, despite the shift in the PBA’s home base, the Cuneta Astrodome remained an important alternate venue for the league. It hosted a significant number of PBA championship series over the years. In fact, by 2011, it had hosted over 30 PBA championship series games, including the Game 2 of the 2011 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Current Role and Legacy

Today, the Cuneta Astrodome continues to serve as an alternate venue for the PBA. It remains one of the backup arenas, alongside the PhilSports Arena in Pasig and the Ynares Center in Antipolo. If the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the league’s primary home, is unavailable, the Cuneta Astrodome steps in to host games. This continued association with the PBA has cemented the Astrodome’s place in the history of Philippine basketball.

The Astrodome remains iconic in Philippine sports culture, especially among fans of the PBA, and continues to be a part of the basketball scene, even as newer, more modern venues dominate the landscape.

Close to tourist spots. Good place to conduct events for up 10-12k people. I hope that they renovate it soon as possible as it is a bit dilapidated.

Nice arena does have good size. It just look like it has been there for a long time maybe it needs repaintaing and renovation
The Cuneta Astrodome and the complex is a good place for sporting events. Concerts and festivals can also be held here.Air-conditioning is at comfort level but may feel warmer at full capacity. There are three levels of seating, lower box and upper box, and general admission. The lower and upper boxes have upholstered seats with a straight backrest that is not so comfortable. Cup holders are only fit for the regular sized tumblers. General admission does not have chairs.Plenty of rooms at the dugout for different functions or for smaller forums or as VIP lounge.Comfort rooms are clean and flushes and bidets are working fine.Food stalls are available inside but with limited food options.

I was here today to get my work and mayor’s permit. I came early since I want to finish it early. I was there 7 am. And I was given a number and it was 83, in validation it took 5 hours already. People complain and were annoyed because of this process they had. I finished by 4 pm and doesn’t have time to go to my work. Worst experience every year. The same as last year.
